A gripe that just won’t stop
Let me get right to it. I am so bored, and irritated by the over used, over exposed, over re-interpreted ‘Keep calm’ posters. I refuse to write the whole phrase as I do not want to encourage the use of it. The ‘Keep calm’ posters has become the ‘Crocs’of inferior decorating. To top it of Mark Coop of ‘Keep Calm and Carry On LTD is trying to get a world trademark of the phrase/poster? Boy, is he wasting his time and money, I actually hope the rest of the world is as bored with it as I am by the time he wins or loses. First of all I think anyone who fights a copyright or trademark battle is wasting their time. If a word exists and is used by more than a 100 people you should not own it. If you don’t want to be copied, don’t show your work – to anyone, ever!
Create for your soul, create for your survival, create for money, but creating for ownership is foolish and pointless. I looked at this book on Amazon and I want to get it. It makes a lot of sense. Maybe because I live in an open source household I have been made aware of how important it is to share information. How much better systems work when 10 000 people work on a project because they want to in comparison to a 100 people working on a system because they have to. Yes 10 000 people own the open project but they can create new things, jobs, businesses and lives with what they have created where the 100 owns none of the project they work on and can create nothing new from the project the slave on.
You are right the two rants have nothing to do with each other. The one is bad art the other is bad practice. To clarify my gripe is with the poster. Stop it already, try coming up with something new. I’m sure in no time everyone will be copying you.
